Team France has nicknamed its robot Wemby

For the First Global Challenge Athens 2024 competition, Team France has nicknamed its robot Wemby to pay tribute to French basketball player Victor Wembanyama, whose popular nickname among fans is Wemby. Like him, our robot will try to rise above the baskets to score as many points as possible.





Victor Wembanyama, born January 4, 2004 in Le Chesnay (Yvelines), is a French international basketball player who plays strong wing and pivot for the San Antonio Spurs in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Measuring 2.24 meters, he is one of the tallest players evolving in the NBA along with Boban Marjanović. In June 2023, Wembanyama was selected as the number one pick in the NBA draft, a first for a Frenchman. At the end of his first season, in which he finished as the league's best counter-attacker, he was unanimously named Rookie of the Year.
