## The opening ceremony of the <i>FIRST</i> Global Challenge Junior Olympic Games will take place at the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens.
|
||||
|
||||
The construction of the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens was inaugurated in the summer of 330 BC, on the occasion of the great Panatheneas. It was completely rebuilt in marble around 140 AD and could accommodate 50 000 people. The stadium was abandoned at the end of the 4th century and fell into ruin. A wheat field covered the site and the marble covering disappeared, reused for other constructions.

The stadium was rebuilt for the first Olympic Games of the modern era in 1896. Rebuilt in marble, it stands out for its high degree of fidelity to the ancient monument.

As an Olympic venue with a rich history of international cooperation and achievement, <i>FIRST</i> Global will be hosting the Athens 2024 Challenge Opening Ceremony there. This will be an exceptional moment for the 190 teams, the hundreds of volunteers and all the spectators. Robotics competition is a real sport, and we'll be doing the Panathenaic Stadium proud.

## La cérémonie d'ouverture des Jeux Olympiques junior du <i>FIRST</i> Global Challenge se déroulera au stade panathénaïque d'Athènes.
|

||||
La construction du stade panathénaïque d'Athènes fut inauguré au cours de l'été 330 av. J.-C. à l'occasion des grandes Panathénées. Il fut entièrement reconstruit en marbre vers 140 ap. J.-C. et pouvait accueillir 50 000 personnes. Le stade fut abandonné à la fin du IVe siècle et tomba en ruine. Un champ de blé recouvrit son site et son revêtement de marbre disparut, réutilisé pour d'autres constructions.
|
||||
La seconde reconstruction du stade s'est faite pour les premiers Jeux olympiques de l'ère moderne en 1896. Rebâti en marbre, il se distingue par son haut degré de fidélité au monument antique.

En tant que site olympique avec une riche histoire de coopération et de réalisations internationales, <i>FIRST</i> Global y organisera la cérémonie d'ouverture du Challenge Athens 2024. Ce sera un moment exceptionnel pour les 190 équipes, les centaines de bénévoles et tous les spectateurs. La compétition robotique est un vrai sport et nous ferons honneur au stade panathénaïque.

## On Wednesday May 15, 2024, we were lucky enough to be able to visit the SKF Magnetic Mechatronics site located in Saint-Marcel (27).

The aim of our visit was to visit the site and also to demonstrate our robot in preparation for our participation in the <i>FIRST</i> Global Challenge 2024 in Athens. We were first welcomed by Pierre Bouculat, Sales Director at SKF Magnetic Mechatronics.

This division of SKF is a world leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of products such as magnetic bearings and high-speed motors. Applied to rotating machines, this solution is mainly used in the natural gas extraction, transport and storage markets.

This expertise enabled them to be selected to extract natural gas in extreme conditions at the bottom of the Norwegian Sea, at a depth of over 300 meters, while at the same time

environmental impact.

Another essential point, Pierre also explained to us the importance and value of skills in and math skills (and in part those already covered in high school) in a company like
|
||||
SKF. Given that most of the young people on our team are destined for scientific studies, we found this part all the more interesting !
|

We then headed for the workshop, complete with safety equipment, for a tour of the production production tour (Very confidential).

Then it was We Robot's turn to show SKF its potential! Timothé gave a presentation before we explained what the <i>FIRST</i> Global Challenge was all about.

With Elina and Quentin at the controls, our robot brilliantly performed the same actions it had at the <i>FIRST</i> Tech Challenge in Lyon. Our demonstration must have pleased the curious employees present, with whom we had the pleasure of chatting and answering questions.

The last part of our visit ended with an exchange between the team and the employees present, who told us more about their careers. SKF's Saint Marcel site is very open to the world, with over 22 nationalities represented. Having employees from all over the world enables SKF and its employees to discover other ways of working and designing, and thus to promote rich exchanges between teams to produce innovative, quality results. Passion, determination and perseverance are the keys to blossoming and excelling in this field.

## Mercredi 15 mai 2024, nous avons eu la chance de pouvoir visiter le site de SKF Magnetic Mechatronics situé à Saint-Marcel (27).

L’objectif de notre de venue était de visiter le site et également de pouvoir faire une démonstration de notre robot en vue de notre participation au <i>FIRST</i>
|
||||
Global Challenge 2024 à Athènes. Nous avons tout d’abord été accueillis par Pierre Bouculat, directeur des ventes chez SKF Magnetic Mechatronics.
|

La première étape de notre visite s’est déroulée en salle de réunion : Pierre nous a fait une présentation synthétique et complète de l’entreprise, avant de nous présenter les principales activités du site : Cette division de SKF est un leader mondial dans la conception, la fabrication et la mise en vente de produits tels que des paliers magnétiques ou encore des moteurs à grande vitesse. Appliquée aux machines tournantes, cette solution est principalement utilisée sur les marchés de l’extraction, du transport et du stockage de gaz naturel.

Cette expertise leur a permis d’être retenus notamment pour extraire du gaz naturel dans des conditions extrêmes au fond de la Mer de Norvège à plus de 300 mètres de profondeur, tout en limitant l’impact environnemental.
|
||||
|
||||
Autre point essentiel, Pierre nous a aussi expliqué l’importance et l’intérêt des compétences en sciences et en mathématiques (et en partie celles déjà abordées au lycée) dans une entreprise comme SKF. Étant donné que la plupart des jeunes de notre équipe se destinent à des études scientifiques, cette partie nous a semblé d’autant plus intéressante !

Nous nous sommes ensuite dirigés vers l’atelier, avec équipements de sécurité de rigueur, pour une visite de la production (Très confidentiel).

C’était ensuite au tour de We Robot de faire découvrir son potentiel à SKF ! Timothé a d’abord fait une présentation du robot, avant que nous n'expliquions en quoi consiste le <i>FIRST</i> Global Challenge.

Elina et Quentin aux commandes, notre robot a effectué avec brio les mêmes actions qu’il avait dû réaliser lors du <i>FIRST</i> Tech Challenge à Lyon. Notre démonstration a dû plaire aux salariés présents qui se sont montrés curieux et avec qui nous avons eu le plaisir de discuter et de répondre aux questions.

La dernière partie de notre visite s’est donc terminée par un échange entre l’équipe et les salarié.esprésent.es qui nous en ont appris plus sur leur parcours. Le site SKF de Saint- Marcel est très ouvert sur le monde, avec plus de 22 nationalités. Avoir des employé.es venant du monde entier permet à SKF et à ses salarié.es de découvrir d’autres manières de travailler, de concevoir et ainsi de promouvoir des échanges riches entre les équipes pour produire des résultats innovants et de qualité. Passion, détermination et persévérance sont les clés pour s’épanouir et exceller dans ce domaine.
